How records are combined
The registration number is used to search vehicle registries and join mileage, ownership and recall records. The lookup starts with the private and commercial registry. If that returns no record or the request fails, it also checks motorcycle, heavy-vehicle and cancelled-registration sources.
Model specifications are matched using codes and model details. Importer prices use the model code and production year; a different price year or a model price range is labelled separately. These are new-vehicle list prices, not a valuation of the used vehicle.
New registrations by model family
Charts combine monthly Ministry of Transport registration counts across reviewed recorded names in a model family, including verified body styles and powertrains. Expand the breakdown to see the contributing names. Distinct models such as Corolla Cross stay separate; unreviewed names show only their own recorded-name counts.
These are registrations, not retail sales or the number of vehicles still on the road. Source labels may contain classification errors. Coverage and partial years are shown beside each chart.
Missing, failed and older information
No matching record, a failed request and an incomplete result are different states. An unavailable section does not establish that an event never happened; missing data is not a passed physical inspection. Previously saved information may be shown with a freshness warning.
Report generation and source retrieval times are not necessarily the date the government record was updated. Check the source details in each section and retry a failed section when that option is offered.
Licence validity, tests and mileage
Vehicle licence expiry and the last roadworthiness-test date are separate registry fields. The report does not determine the next test date from the previous test date alone.
The mileage source supplies the latest recorded odometer reading, not a multi-year series. The last test date shown in the vehicle timeline comes from the vehicle registry; the mileage source provides no separate date for the reading. One number cannot establish an odometer rollback or an annual driving pattern.
Previous ownership, leasing and rental
The official history service covers active private vehicles from 2017 onward. Its ownership-history file excludes vehicles that previously had a different registration number. Records describe ownership types, such as private, leasing or rental, without identifying individual owners.
The official service describes ownership dates by quarter. A quarter is not an exact transfer date, and the number of available records does not establish the total number of owners over the vehicle’s life. No leasing or rental entry does not prove the vehicle was never used that way.
Recalls, accidents and mechanical condition
The recall source used by the report concerns vehicles still unrepaired more than six months after an importer’s letter. No match does not rule out a newer recall, and the source does not provide a history of completed recall repairs. Verify the status with the importer or official service.
A registered structural modification is not an accident record. Public records do not establish all accidents, chassis repairs or mechanical condition. Before buying, compare supporting documents and arrange a professional physical inspection.
Illustrative example only — fictional figures
If the report’s latest reading is 82,000 km and the vehicle’s dashboard shows 79,000 km, the difference needs checking against test and service documents. The single report reading does not establish when the difference arose or why, and it supplies no readings for earlier years.
