What the snapshot shows
The median calendar age is 8 years. At least half the known-year registrations fall at or below the median and at least half at or above it.
The largest age band is 0–4 years: 1,354,186 registrations, or 32.4% of the known-year total.
The age of the covered fleet
Calendar age means 2026 minus the recorded manufacture year. It is approximate: it does not measure exact birthdays, time since purchase or years of use.
2026 is a partial calendar year. Its 251,228 covered registrations are included at age 0, within the 0–4 band, exactly as observed. No full-year estimate or comparison with complete years is made.
The government describes this resource as private vehicles manufactured from 1996 onward and commercial vehicles up to 3,500 kg manufactured from 1998 onward. Earlier vehicles are outside that coverage. The 20+ band therefore does not represent all older vehicles in Israel.

Sources, coverage and method
The covered population is the active private/commercial registry rows accepted by CarCheck’s committed market snapshot. Age percentages use only the subset with a known, valid manufacture year. It is not a count of every vehicle in Israel. Motorcycles, the separate heavy-vehicle registry and cancelled registrations are excluded. The cancellation and annual-registration datasets do not contribute to this calculation.

The date above is when CarCheck generated the aggregate, not a verified upstream update date. The snapshot does not retain the source’s last-modified timestamp or a precise observation period. Source links open the current government resource, which may have changed since generation.
The generator requires a manufacturer name and code plus either a marketing model name or a technical model code. Rows lacking these grouping fields are excluded before aggregation; their number is not retained, so their coverage cannot be quantified. Technical codes and unreliable marketing labels that were accepted stay in the age counts: a reliable model name is not needed to subtract a manufacture year.
For each valid manufacture year from 1886 through the snapshot year: age = snapshot year in UTC − manufacture year. Sum the active counts into five non-overlapping age bands. The 15+ share is (15–19 count + 20+ count) ÷ known-year count. The median is weighted by registration counts; for an even total it averages the two middle ages. Missing, invalid and future years are excluded from age percentages and shown separately. If covered and model totals do not reconcile, all findings are withheld.
Manufacturer names use the same brand resolver as the model directory, falling back to the manufacturer code. Model keys use the existing statistical normalization (trim and lowercase, then retain ASCII letters and digits if present; otherwise retain the trimmed, lowercased name). Plant and spelling groups are counted once. Age totals sum active manufacture-year buckets only; they never add model totals, road-entry counts or cancelled counts again. Directory aliases are links, not additional observations.
Before publication, the calculation rejects repeated normalized manufacturer/model keys, repeated year buckets, misaligned arrays and counts that do not reconcile. The generator also checks page completeness. The stored aggregate contains no vehicle identifiers, so it cannot independently detect duplicate vehicle records already present upstream or offset-pagination drift. Those source-level limitations remain.
These figures describe registrations, not sales. They do not measure mechanical reliability or explain why vehicles remain registered. One snapshot cannot establish an ageing trend or changes in demand.
